Every girl dreams of that special Prom Night — when she is beautiful and radiant in a dress that makes her look and feel like Cinderella. Unfortunately, sometimes the cost of the dresses and accessories is more than some families can afford.

Help is available at The Prom Closet. Dona Tuel with assistance from Pastor Teri Mogensen and Mandy Burmeister have taken the challenge to assist young ladies with their prom expenses. They are seeking the donation of dresses, jewelry and shoes so that other girls can enjoy a lovely evening this spring.

Two years ago, Gail Daniel headed a group sponsored by St Elizabeth Seton Church in Glidden. They took on the project of redistributing gowns and accessories. While it was successful, it was also time consuming and a new home was needed.

Ascension Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids and Tuel accepted the challenge. Dona has tackled the project with a vigor, making plans, seeking donations and setting shopping dates.

The idea behind The Prom Closet is to allow young women to share their attire with other young women. So many times, that special dress is worn just one evening and then it hangs in the closet for years. By donating dresses to The Prom Closet, other young ladies can feel the excitement and joy, looking every bit as beautiful as the original purchaser did on their special night.

Right now, there is a need for donations of dresses, shoes and accessories, in all sizes. The donations should be clean and gently used.

Donations can be dropped off Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm at the Iowa Savings Bank locations in Coon Rapids, Glidden and Carroll. Peoples Trust & Savings Bank in Guthrie Center is also collecting donations.

Tuel is available to pick up items to make it more convenient. Call or text her at 712-830-7825.

A dress drive is planned to fully stock the wardrobe. It will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Coon Rapids church, 406 Fifth Avenue South, from 4 to 7 pm. ~The Scranton Journal
